Established in 1787 and completed in 1790, Destrehan Plantation is the oldest documented French Colonial-style plantation home in the lower Mississippi River Valley. Located just outside New Orleans, Louisiana, the site holds deep historical significance as a former indigo and sugarcane producer, a post-Civil War Freedmen’s Bureau colony, and a major location for the tribunal trials following the 1811 German Coast Uprising, the largest slave revolt in U.S. history. Beyond its educational exhibits, the plantation’s moss-draped live oaks and striking architecture have made it a highly sought-after backdrop for major Hollywood productions; its historic mule barn was transformed into a vintage cotton gin house for the Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave (2013), its main house served as the dark, candlelit interior for Interview with the Vampire (1994), and its scenic grounds have hosted television and musical projects like NCIS: New Orleans (2015), Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade (2016), and the Pretty Little Liars spinoff series Ravenswood (2013).
Pick-up BEGINS at 10:00AM and may continue for up to 30 minutes (10:00-10:30AM). Please be OUTSIDE and ready for pick-up when the driver arrives, keeping in mind that buses have no parking areas and will be allowed to stop only momentarily for pick-ups. Due to traffic delays and the number of stops, we ask that you be outside and ready for this 30-minute period.
After leaving the city at 10:30AM, our buses arrive at Destrehan Plantation at approximately 11:00AM. View lunch options and make food selection enroute to Destrehan Plantation. The plantation requires our bus driver to assist in the check-in process for ticket distribution and lunch orders.
Destrehan Tour time is between 11:15-11:30AM for a 60-minute guided tour. This time is what is offered through Destrehan Plantation, and we are unable to deviate from our assigned tour time.
Guests will have up to 60-minutes of free time to pick-up pre-ordered lunch at Destrehan’s Indigo Café and explore the plantation grounds.
Buses depart Destrehan between 1:15-1:30PM for Cajun Pride Swamp Tours. Upon arrival, please proceed directly upstairs to obtain an entrance ticket. An entrance ticket is required in order to tour the swamp.
Boats leave promptly at 2:15PM for a 90-minute narrated boat tour of the Manchac Swamp.
Bus pick-up for transfer back to the city is 4:00PM. Hotel drop-off is between 4:30-4:45PM.
